Want The Midas Touch? Be Your #1 VIP Client

If you’re an entrepreneur and have your own company you know that taking care of your business can mean working long hours and having a schedule that is filled to the brim with meetings, appointments, planning, administration and more.

One of the biggest things I discovered from working with my clients was that most of them, regardless of what type of business they had, suffered from burnout. They all loved what they did, but the hours they worked didn’t leave much time for anything else let alone taking care of themselves, their health, their sanity and their families.

This was particularly prevalent with 1 of my clients, who was married with 4 children, had her own successful business that was currently stuck in a plateau, was in between having an assistant and getting another one up and trained she was overwhelmed, overworked and when I asked her the following question, “You don’t ever have time for yourself do you?” She began to cry.

Does this sound familiar? Do you ever feel like a rat running on a treadmill going nowhere? You keep doing more and more, or no matter how fast you run you get little return for all your efforts? Do you feel overworked and burned out? Well you are not alone! We have all been here. One of the side effects of all this is that it can leave you feeling exhausted, run down, stressed and this in turn impacts how you show up in your business, how you deal with clients, how you interact with your loved ones. When you’re not operating at your optimal level this impacts, your judgment, your decision-making, your productivity, your performance and your bottom line. Ouch!

Want to have the Midas touch instead and have greater success in your business and your personal life? Who doesn’t?

Here’s the key to doing this: You need to make yourself your #1 VIP Client and schedule “quality me time” for yourself each and every day.

Think of it this way.

Let’s say you are on an aircraft flying to your destination and all of a sudden the plane loses altitude and oxygen masks drop down from above your head. Do you start getting up and running around helping other people first? No… you put your own oxygen mask on first. Without it, you become unconscious and can’t help anyone, including yourself. This is the same premise to get the best outcome for your business.

You must take care of yourself first. Reduce stress, eat well, exercise and keep fit, get enough rest, keep your mind sharp and alert, keep yourself focused on your goals and outcomes for your business and be aware of opportunities, challenges and where you need to make course corrections to keep you on track. Make sure to take care of your team and your relationships with your clients. Continue to develop goodwill and greater value and nurture what you have. Create a strong foundation so you can build a solid and successful business moving forward.

So what is “quality me time” and how are you going to schedule it?

Each day (7 days per week) you are going to schedule yourself at least 1 hour per day to do something that you love that you are passionate about. You get to spend quality time for yourself doing something that nurtures you, that nurtures your spirit. It can be at any time you choose, You just need to schedule it in as if you were your most important #1 VIP Client and stick to it no matter what. Once that is scheduled it is locked in. Just like setting an appointment with one of your top clients that you love working with and who pays you really well for your time.

The other thing that you are going to do is make sure that you schedule times to eat and stop, sit down and actually have something to eat even if it is a 15 minute break. (If 1 – 2 meals a day are a smoothie that you have on the go that is OK. As long as you have 2 sitting down and eating breaks that will work.)

You will also schedule 3 – 5 times per week 1 hour to exercise or move, go for a walk, dance, do yoga, do some stretching or some activity that moves your body and gets you out of your head.

For my client who was extremely stressed who never gave herself time to do anything after one week of me enforcing this for her she said, “I feel like I’ve been on vacation! I feel more relaxed, I feel like I have time to stop and breath and things have become clearer. My relationship with my husband has improved, I’ve hired a new assistant and my business has picked up. This has been amazing!”

What a concept! Take care of yourself first! You get to do less and achieve more.
