Working and running a business, making sure you have enough time for your family and all the other commitments you somehow need to stuff into your weekly schedule can sometimes be overwhelming.
Ever feel like you’re S-T-R-E-T-C-H-E-D beyond your limit?
Is there always one more thing you need to get done before tomorrow?
It’s time to stop!
Take a moment to breathe. Ah, that’s better.
If you’re not taking care of yourself first, then you’ll certainly run out of juice. Your tank will be empty and you’ll be running merely on fumes. Now that’s definitely not the way to be living and enjoying life.
It’s time to make a few tweaks so that you’ll feel rejuvenated, refreshed and able to enjoy the activities you’re doing throughout your day.
Here are a few simple habits that you can implement as self care to achieve this result.
Open up your calendar and block out 1 hour each day. Do this before you schedule anyone or anything else. Use this hour to de-stress, decompress and unplug from whatever is going on. Put on some great music and workout, or some relaxing music and take a long luxurious bath. Grab a pen and a notebook and do some journaling or take time out to dream. Give yourself a facial and massage your body with wonderful organic cream or lotion. Put revitalizing essential oils into your diffuser and feel the stress melt away.
On your weekends you can choose to block out at least 2 hours per day or give yourself a spa day once a month.
Schedule vacation time. Once a month or once a quarter take at least 1 – 2 days off. Give yourself a 3 or 4 day long weekend for rest and relaxation. Perhaps you want to dial up the romance with your partner, reconnect with Nature or give your body a tune up by doing a juice fast, getting a massage or doing a few fun new workouts such as Cross Fit, Boxing or anything else that you’ve been wanting to try out.
Every 6 months take at least 1 – 2 weeks off and be off the grid. Travel to a location or locations that feed your spirit. Leave work behind, turn your phone off and go have some fun!
Each day drink plenty of water. Our body is made up of 65 -75% water. When we’re working and running around it’s easy to forget to drink and we can become dehydrated. When that happens it leads to feeling fatigued and listless. Make sure to have a large bottle of water with you at all times so that you can gauge your water intake. When you’re working out, going for a long hike, during the Summer months or if you’re traveling to a place that has a warmer climate make sure to increase the amount of water you drink to compensate for water loss through sweating.
Eat good quality nourishing food. What you eat fuels your entire body and gives it energy, boosts your immunity, repairs damaged tissue and restores vitality.
Don’t sweat the small stuff! Excellence is not about being perfect. Plan your day and week with activities that focus on doing the things that matter the most and schedule everything else for either another day or simply choose not to do them at all.
Remove everything that’s toxic out of your life. That includes toxic people, toxic food, toxic social media and anything else that doesn’t support optimal health and well-being.
Say “No” to what doesn’t serve you. Choose to do things that are in alignment with your true nature and purpose that make you light up. Being a “people pleaser” seeking approval or attempting to live up to someone else’s expectations is exhausting. Be honest and simply decline. Not only will it free up your time, being your authentic self is effortless and liberating.
Get enough rest. Sleep is crucial for our body to function at its best. Make a choice to stop working by a set time in the afternoon or evening so that you can get to sleep by 10 pm. Our body does most of its repairing, restoring and rejuvenating between 10 pm – 2 am. You can always get up early to complete a task.
