Helicopter Ride Through The Grand Canyon – Getting A 6,000-Foot Perspective

One of the places I’ve always wanted to visit is the Grand Canyon. As one of the 7 natural wonders of the world, it has always held a fascination. How it was formed is one of Nature’s miracles and you will still find 4,000 feet below the rim, remnants of the ocean floor that once resided there eons ago.

Recently I had the great privilege to visit and what better way to see it in all its glory than via helicopter!

Working as a Flight Attendant for Qantas for many years, being in the air feels like a 2nd home for me. At 35,000 –40,000 feet in the air you get views and a perspective like no other.

We booked our helicopter adventure through 5 Star Grand Canyon Helicopter Tours and they scheduled everything for us. #5starhelicoptertours

Serenity Helicopters was the company we’d actually be flying with and they’d be the ones taking care of us. #serenityhelicopters

At midday, we got picked up by Serenity’s luxury air-conditioned Mercedes van that would transport us to the Boulder City Airport where our helicopter was waiting.

After the safety briefing, we were ready for taking off!

With the grace of an eagle, the helicopter took off and banked to the right as we headed towards the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead and then onto the Grand Canyon.

Astounding is the best way to describe the aerial view! At 5,000 feet we swept into the West Rim with our pilot Mike “Mad Dog” Davis giving us a commentary about the stunning scenery below. The Grand Canyon is totally unique and like nowhere else on the planet.

When you’re flying, it is no longer possible to see the small inconsequential things that we get caught up within our daily life. They become infinitesimal and obsolete to the point where they are non-existent.

All we can now be aware of is the bigger picture, a vast array of remarkable architecture built by the Divine that extends out as far as the eye can see and the magnificence of creation that we are part of. From this vantage point, you get the complete picture, where all the opportunities are, what is looming on the horizon, what is coming up as you’re moving forward, where the danger lies and what you are leaving behind that no longer serves you.

Colors from deep red, orange ochre, black, brown volcanic ash, to creamy white limestone paint the landscape with a dazzling blue sky and the swirling green of the Colorado River as the backdrop. There is no separation between you and the Creator and all at once you melt into the sacred union where matter and pure consciousness merge to be reminded yet again of the immortality that lies within.

Halfway through the flight, we descended to a private landing site.

We walked around, feeling the rarified earth beneath our feet, marveling at rocks that still contained shells and impressions from the sea floor, and taking in the panorama that is utterly captivating in its enormity, wild ruggedness and haunting beauty.

We sat and ate a picnic looking out at one of the most spectacular views you will ever see anywhere in the world!

The gift of time is the present. In the present moment, there is only the field of pure possibility, pure potentiality filled with the electric of Life Force itself.

Nothing matters…No thing matters and you’re able to rise above all thought effortlessly, just like a helicopter taking off, to be embraced by the effervescent joy of the Infinite.

We resumed our journey heading back. Now at 6,000 feet we swooped and glided over both water and land giddy with the jewel of insight that had been placed inside us from this experience.

At 6,000 feet you have a new perspective, you reach another level of awareness that is not apparent at ground level. From the ground it “appears” invisible and out of reach, yet once you have it, you have the realization that at each new level there is a greater awareness that opens up and it continues like the emergence of fractals, folding in on itself, to reveal an ever-expanding landscape of God’s divine grace. Whether you are at ground level or 40,000 feet it is always open to you when you wake up to the Self.

After landing we all hugged, grateful for this once in a lifetime experience. The Grand Canyon is truly unforgettable, implanting itself deep within your spirit, leaving you with much more than what you had come with.
